ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. (WVUE) - St. John the Baptist Parish officials held a press conference to outline their plans as the state moves into Phase 1 of reopening.

Government buildings in the parish will remain closed as workers prepare their buildings for a future reopening.

But St. John Parish President Jacyln Hotard says some businesses will reopen but she’s asking residents to wear masks when going out in public.

Hotard also created a task force to make sure businesses are following Phase 1 guidelines.

“I have also authorized our fire department, with approval of State Fire Marshal, to monitor business compliance and to assist with educating businesses about compliance,” says Hotard. “This reopening task force, run by the St. John Fire Department will make sure that our businesses have the adequate resources and information to safely reopen and to adhere to the Phase 1 guidelines.”

Governor John Bel Edwards announced Monday he would be ending the statewide stay-at-home order on Friday and begin Phase 1 of reopening the state. Phase 1 will begin Friday and is expected to last 21 days.
