Jefferson Parish officials outline Phase 1 of reopening
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish will follow Governor John Bel Edwards’ order and will enter into Phase 1 starting Friday.
Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee-Sheng says they will proceed carefully and responsibly into Phase 1. It will begin on Friday and last for 21 days until June 5. But she says residents and businesses must continue following social distancing and hygiene guidelines, stay at home if they’re sick and wear face masks in public.
Lee-Sheng says those guidelines should continue until there is a vaccine.
Some of the changes that will be seen in Jefferson Parish beginning Friday include restaurants and bars with food permits can re-open with 25 percent of their normal capacity. However, high contact industries, such as spas, massage establishments and kids play centers, will remain closed.
“It is your own personal risk that you have access. If you or someone over 65, if you are sick dealing with an illness, it is probably not the time for you to do anything different,” says Lee-Sheng. “It’s probably best that you stay at home. Regardless of what phase we are in, it is everyone’s own responsibility to understand your own risk factors as we proceed forward.”
Lee-Sheng adds that starting Friday, mask will be required on public transportation in Jefferson Parish.
